Supporting LGBTQIA+ Orgs We Love: Beyond the Rainbow
Supporting LGBTQ2+ Causes and Organizations
LGBTQ2+ people are not new to the fight for equality. And let’s face it, in today’s political climate, the rights and safety of people in these communities are under direct attack now more than ever. Our team has been right here in the trenches for over a decade, openly standing with and supporting organizations that fight tooth and nail for LGBTQ2+ causes, queer rights, health, and safety.
Queer and trans communities are in need of support year-round, not just in the month of Pride. That is why we are proud to support amazing organizations fighting for LGBTQ2+ people year-round. A portion of proceeds from every bottle of our simply® Aqua Special Edition supports organizations fighting for queer and trans rights.
Why We Support LGBTQ2+ People
We believe that all people deserve basic human rights, civil liberties, access to wellness and health care. LGBTQ2+ people face significant discrimination and prejudice in various areas of life, including employment, housing, healthcare, and education. Discriminatory practices, unequal treatment, and hate crimes are still a common threat for LGBTQ2+ people, and the organizations that support these communities need our assistance, and yours too.
As we have all seen in recent laws passed throughout the United States, queer and trans people’s access to health care and open existence are under direct attack. In many states, there are no laws explicitly protecting against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It then falls on organizations like the ones we support with simply® Aqua Special Edition to provide assistance to members of those communities.
LGBTQ2+ Causes We Support
Each month, we select a different organization to donate proceeds to, which allows us to cast a wide net of inclusive support. For example, we know that LGBTQ2+ youth are disproportionately affected by homelessness due to family rejection, discrimination, and lack of support systems. Many face higher rates of mental health issues, substance abuse, suicide, and victimization. These realities are near and dear to us personally, and therefore supporting marginalized groups of people has become the heartbeat of our company
Advocacy is urgently needed to improve resources and support for LGBTQ2+ youth, including shelters, mental health services, and safe housing options. That is why we are proud to support Covenant House, which has opened its doors to over 1.5 million young people experiencing homelessness and trafficking, including LGBTQ2+ youth.
Heightened violence and targeted attacks against trans women of color are another deeply concerning trend that demands urgent attention and action. That is why we donate a portion of the proceeds from the entire simply® collection to Marsha P. Johnson Institute every year for Pride month.
LGBTQ2+ Advocacy
Wicked Sensual Care has donated over $35,000 to LGBTQ2+ charities since 2021 through sales of simply® Aqua Special Edition.
In addition to the year-round initiative, in 2023 we are also donating a percentage of proceeds from the entire simply® collection to Marsha P. Johnson Institute and Equality Florida in honor of Pride month.
Our Resident Sex Educator, jessica drake, also provides weekly donations of safer sex supplies and lube packets to unhoused people, including sex workers, through Feed the Streets Los Angeles. Our team takes part in AIDS Walk LA each year, proudly raising over $120,000 for APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles) supporting HIV/AIDS support and research.
Education and Action
Sales from simply® Aqua Special Edition has helped support over a dozen organizations, such as Trans LifeLine, The Yellow Hammer Fund, Transsanta, Black & Pink, Immigration Equality, 1 in 6, Tending the Garden, GLAAD, Blast N Scrap, HIPS, Equality Florida, Marsha P. Johnson Institute, the Jewish Pride Fund, Covenant House, and more. The organizations that we support offer assistance in a wide variety of areas on both local and national scales.
For example, the YellowHammer Fund is a 501(c)3 abortion advocacy and reproductive justice organization serving Alabama, Mississippi, and the Deep South. Blast N Scrap empowers queer and trans artists in Colorado by sponsoring multi-media events & education programs focused on mutual aid, harm reduction, & community resources.
In addition to committing time and money to LGBTQ2+ organizations, we are dedicated to utilizing our public platforms and social media to educate the public about LGBTQ2+ needs, issues, and resources. Make sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
